Implant Dentures – Mesquite, TX

Get a Full Arch of Sturdy New Teeth

If you’re missing teeth, you’ve likely considered traditional dentures. Those prosthetic teeth are a famous hallmark of restorative dentistry. Still, maybe you don’t think they suit you. In that case, perhaps you’d like to try implant dentures in Mesquite. These restorations rely on dental implants to stay anchored in your mouth. They thus have unique benefits that other dentures lack. If you’d like to learn more, just keep reading or book a consultation at our office!

What are Implant Dentures?

Unlike regular ones, implant dentures rely on dental implants – prosthetic tooth roots. The latter restorations are placed in your jawbone and gradually fuse with it over time. Therefore, they can pair with a denture to keep it in place. The final treatment result is thus more lifelike and functional than a denture simply resting on your gums.

Based on your needs and wants, Dr. Walia may suggest one of two implant denture types during your consultation:

Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures

Also known as hybrid prostheses, fixed implant dentures are designed to stay firmly in place. Consequently, only a qualified dentist can remove them.

Normally, four to six implants are placed for a fixed implant denture. That means the appliance is so secure that most patients even forget it’s there. In exchange, though, this denture requires sufficient jawbone density.

Removable Implant Dentures

Per their name, removable implant dentures can be removed as needed. They’re thus sometimes known as “Snap-On dentures.”

To be clear, this denture is firmly rooted via dental implants. That said, it connects to the prosthetic tooth roots with clips (bar-retained) or ball sockets (ball-retained). The appliance also needs to be removed daily for cleaning. On the upside, though, it only requires two to five implants.

The Implant Denture Process

Once it’s settled that implant dentures suit you, we’ll start planning your treatment. This stage may include bone grafting and similar prep work, ensuring you’ll be ready for implant placement.

For the actual implant denture procedure, Dr. Walia will follow several steps. First, she’ll insert the implant posts strategically in your jaw. Once they’ve correctly fused with the surrounding bone, she’ll place metal connectors – abutments – on them. Lastly, Dr. Walia and her team will design the final denture and use the abutments to attach it to the implants.

Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

Generally, adults missing all the teeth along an arch are good implant denture candidates. Most can qualify following a consultation or after preparatory treatments. Otherwise, the qualities that make for a good candidate are:

  • Lack of pre-existing oral health problems
  • High jawbone density that can support osseointegration
  • Commitment to good oral hygiene
  • A desire for more permanent and replacement teeth
